Dr. Gregory C. Felthousen earned his Bachelor of Science from Old Dominion University and Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia (to which he later returned as faculty in fixed prosthetics.) He had maintained a private practice in family dentistry for twelve years in Urbanna, Virginia, prior to returning for postgraduate training.
Dr. Felthousen received his postgraduate training in the specialty of periodontics at the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1990. While there, he also completed and received his Masters of Science degree with emphasis on bone regeneration. He received the award for most outstanding postdoctoral research from the American College of Dentists for his work in this field. This training was centered upon the use of regenerative grafting procedures, and the use of surgical dental implants to replace missing teeth.
Dr. Felthousen became a Board Certified Diplomate with the American Board of Periodontology in 1994. Since the, he has continued to modify and further improve the clinical aspects of surgical treatment. Courses in microsurgery culminated in equipping the office with a surgical microscope in 2000. The introduction of computer assisted implant placement techniques has been in place since 2005. Dr. Felthousen was one of the first one hundred doctors in the world to be certified in these procedures.
Dr. Felthousen became a Board Certified Diplomate with the American Board of Periodontology in 1994. Since the, he has continued to modify and further improve the clinical aspects of surgical treatment.
In the summer of 2008, Dr. Felthousen began studies as a Fellow in Periodontal Prosthetics and Implantology at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He completed the Fellowship program in July of 2010. Dr. Felthousen is now a Certified Fellow in Periodontal, Implant Prosthetics. This certificate provides the educational and clinical background to plan, develop and treat cases involving the replacement of single tooth, full denture and implant borne prosthetics.
Dr. Felthousen has been a clinical professor in the postgraduate department of periodontics at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He is now an assistant clinical professor working with the university’s new eastern shore dental hygiene program.
Dr. Felthousen was recently invited back to teach at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He is co-director of surgical seminars. He supervises the residents in periodontal implant prosthetics and teaches the advanced procedures used to reconstruct the oral dentition with implants.
Dr. Felthousen is an active member in the American Academy of Periodontics, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry. He is past President of the Eastern Shore Dental Society. Dr. Felthousen has been certified by Durathin Veneers. Currently, he is the only specialist in our area to be certified.
