This technique is usually used in the more severely involved disease conditions. It may improve your ability to bite and chew food as well as reduce sensitivity to hot and cold. Often it is used in cases where back teeth are missing and front teeth have been over burdened with chewing forces.
This procedure is used to stabilize loose teeth that have lost the necessary bone support required for stability. The technique uses tooth colored resin to join stronger teeth to the loose ones to reduce mobility. The amount of bone loss and tooth mobility will determine if the procedure can be done on the outside surfaces (“extra coronal”) or if internal support (“intra coronal”) bonding is necessary. Intra coronal splinting utilizes reinforcing materials such as Kevlar or Titanium to further support the mobile teeth.
